MLC offers its patrons a variety of databases to help fulfill their information needs. These resources are listed below. Some are available remotely from anywhere, and patrons can contact staff for access information, some are available only within the Commission’s local network in the building, and some are only available to staff, but patrons can request some articles and information through interlibrary loan and reference requests. Remote Access: The following resources are accessible remotely with an MLC card (patrons may request needed usernames and passwords from the reference desk):
Database of video classes for arts and crafts projects with a knit and crochet pattern library.
Provides authoritative recommendations at 3 levels for reference and non-fiction books for adults.
A genealogical database (similar to Ancestry) containing not only census information, but articles from historical journals and information from the Freedman’s Bank.
Library Literature & Information Science Retrospective
An index of journal articles and book chapters in the field of library and information science from 1905-1983.
What it is: A group of databases available to all Mississippians through their local public libraries, schools, colleges, or state agencies.
The complete readers’ advisory solution, empowers librarians, engages readers and connects communities. This database is a readers’ advisory tool for both fiction and nonfiction titles.
Online access to Salem Press titles in MLC’s collection, including Great Events from History and H.W. Wilson: Speeches of American Presidents.
Digital versions of historical fire insurance maps.
What it is: Digital access in 3-day increments to the Wall Street Journal Online. Access to an e-replica of the day’s paper, as well as e-content and a four-year archive.
Please be mindful of equitable access for all our patrons when requesting redemptions. Also, please do not share sign-on credentials with any other person, which could result in MLC losing access.

What it is: Source for reviews of academic books, media, and Internet resources for those in academic libraries.
What it is: Online access to the Clarion-Ledger’s website, including a 1-month archive as well as other USA Today network digital editions. For papers dated earlier than 1 month ago, check newspapers.com.
What it is: Digital access to current and database of archived articles from Harper’s Magazine.
What it is: Online access to current National Geographic and their archive, which goes back to 1888.
The New York Review of Books Online
What it is: Online access to the current issue of The New York Review of Books, along with their archive, which goes back to 1963.
What it is: Online access to the current issue of The Northside Sun as well as a two-year archive. For access to their full archive, which goes back to 1971, log in to the archive page (linked on the e-editions page) with MLC’s newspapers.com login OR access directly from newspapers.com.
What it is: Online access to current and past issues of Publishers Weekly as well as archived editions.

Searchable business database, similar to ReferenceUSA.
Ancestry Library Edition
A genealogical tool that contains 1.5 billion names in over 4000 databases, including the United States Census and the Social Security Death Index.
What it is: Online-exclusive reviews, access to digital editions of Booklist, and their online-only magazine: Booklist Reader.
Legal Forms
Mississippi-specific legal forms. Includes divorce, name changes, lease agreements, power of attorney, wills, and more.
What it is: Online, text-searchable database of newspapers from around the world. Holdings range from 1850 to the present.
What it is: Legal database with cases, legislation, and legal forms.
