General Information
This program is made possible by the National Library Service for the Blind and Physically Handicapped, Library of Congress, working in partnership with the Mississippi Library Commission.
- Services provided by BPHLS are free
- Materials available for circulation include braille books and magazines, books and magazines on audio cassette (talking books), large print books and descriptive videos
- All materials are mailed to patrons and returned to BPHLS by postage-free mail
- Similar to that of a mid-sized public library, the book collection consists of more than 58,000 general fiction and nonfiction titles for adults and children
- Textbooks are not available
- Adaptive equipment is loaned to active patrons registered for books on tape (talking books) service
- Over 75 free magazine subscriptions are available in braille or on audio cassette
- Registration for large print service allows access to 10,000 books
- Descriptive video service enables patrons to enjoy feature length films through the addition of a narrator describing action and sets
