Reference and Interlibrary Loan Services (ILL)
ILL Large Print Book Services
Direct Mail Service to Eligible Individuals
The agency offers direct loan by mail of large print books to individuals certified as unable to read standard print. To be eligible for this service, individuals must first be registered patrons of the Blind and Physically Handicapped Library Services. Patrons of the Large Print Direct Mail Service may select titles from specially produced catalogs and have large print books mailed directly to their home. Institutions such as schools, group care centers, and nursing homes may also register as Institutional patrons for this service. Materials are returned free of charge by the U.S. Post Office under "Free Matter for the Blind and Physically handicapped."
Large Print Book Extended Loan Service to Libraries
The agency's large print collection contains thousands of fiction and non-fiction titles. New large print materials are available individually for six week loan. Mississippi libraries may request older titles in batch to supplement local collections. These "extended loan" titles are loaned for six months. Large print materials may be shipped between libraries free of charge through the U.S. Postal Service as "Free Matter for the Blind and Physically Handicapped".
