Friends of Mississippi Libraries, Inc.
The Friends of Mississippi Libraries, Inc. was formed in the 1980's to enhance the role of Friends of the Library Chapters throughout Mississippi. As part of is mission, the statewide Friends organization is open to all and serves as an advocate for library issues on the local, state and national levels; encourages the enhancement of local library services; and promotes reading and the enjoyment of books by all Mississippians. As Mississippi enters the 21st Century, there are more than 100 local Friends Chapters and individuals representing over a thousand library supporters throughout the state.
As charitable organizations in Mississippi, local Friends Chapters can choose to share the Friends of Mississippi Libraries, Inc.'s U.S. Internal Revenue Service 501 (c)(3) non-profit designation. It is also important for all Friends Chapters to register as a tax-exempt Charitable Organization with the Mississippi Secretary of State's office. http:/www.sos.state.ms.us/regenf/charities/regcharsol.asp
Realizing the importance of having citizens who support and promote libraries, the Friends of Mississippi Libraries and its regional representatives assist local communities in establishing or revitalizing Friends Chapters. Contact can be made through the Development Services Division of the Mississippi Library Commission at 601-432-4111 or 1-800-MISSLIB.>
