Cooperative / Partnerships

The Library Commission actively seeks to partner with other state agencies in mutually beneficial cooperative ventures aimed at improving services to and awareness of the resources available to Mississippians to achieve their greatest potential and enrich their daily lives.

Partnership opportunities include, but are not limited to:

Free Meeting Room Space

The Library Commission provides free access to meeting rooms for state agencies.  The Commission’s meeting space can seat up to 64 at conference tables or up to 85 auditorium style. Ample parking is available. For more information on reserving a meeting room for a state agency group, contact: Veronica Dunning at 601-432-4057 or vdunning@mlc.lib.ms.us

Free Materials Distribution

Mississippians recognize libraries as a source for information which makes libraries excellent outlets for governmental public awareness efforts. The Library Commission can distribute publications, brochures, posters and other materials to all 239 public libraries for use in take-one displays.

In addition, public libraries offer free internet access to all members of their community. Library public access computers are heavily used by individuals seeking employment, completing application forms, renewing licenses, and transacting other online business with government entities.  The Library Commission welcomes opportunities to distribute information which would aid librarians in assisting users to access online government resources.

Outreach Opportunities at Public Libraries

As community centers, public libraries offer excellent locations for state agency group presentations to local residents.  The Library Commission would gladly distribute information to public libraries concerning presentations and exhibits available from state agencies.  In many cases, libraries hosting a state agency presentation can feature items from the library’s collection to further enrich the attendee experience.

Staff Development Presentations

Library Commission staff welcome the opportunity to participate in agency staff development with presentations on the resources and services available to state employees.

Resource Development

Our information specialists can create bibliographies of recommended print and electronic resources to support agency projects.  State agencies and state employees are also encouraged to recommend titles for inclusion in the Commission’s library collection which would benefit the agency.  For titles not currently available in the collection, staff can borrow them from another library for short term agency use.

Grant Partnership Opportunities

With established connections in libraries throughout the state, the Library Commission may be an excellent partner for agencies applying for grants.  We welcome the opportunity to discuss how library participation can further the goals of such special project efforts.
