Reference, Circulation, and Interlibrary Loan Services for State Government
The collection of the Library Commission is developed in part to meet the information needs of the library community and state government. The Primary Resource Library contains a wide range of books, large print books, state and federal documents, periodicals, audiovisuals, and electronic resources to meet these needs.
The Library Commission's reference department is available to answer both brief, factual questions and in-depth research queries. Requests can be submitted in person or by phone, email, text, chat, or fax.
Employees and officials of Mississippi State government may apply for a Mississippi Library Commission library card by completing and submitting an application form. Once the completed form is returned and reviewed, a card will be issued and mailed to the employee's office. While it is not necessary to have a Library Commission library card to visit the library or submit research requests, a valid card is necessary to borrow materials, to place reserves directly on the Commission's online catalog, and to receive passwords to the select databases that can be accessed from home or office.
When specific titles or journal articles needed by state employees are not found in the Commission's collection, staff will search for and borrow materials from other libraries nationwide on interlibrary loan. There is no fee for this service.
Materials from the Library Commission's library and those obtained on interlibrary loan may be picked up at the Commission or mailed to the employee's agency office.
