Nicknamed Red Carpet City of the South, Vicksburg is located on the east bank of the Mississippi River is one of the state's chief ports and a site of major Civil War battles. Vicksburg is currently home of the Vicksburg National Military Park, U. S. Waterways Experiment Station, and the annual Miss Mississippi Scholarship Pageant.
